3 Types of Privacy Fences

Freedom Fence Privacy Fences

There are a few different types of privacy fences, each lending themselves to different needs and aesthetics.

Are you looking to build a privacy fence? You might have neighbors you want to keep out, you might have a dog who loves to climb, or you might want to block out a really ugly view or a busy street from seeing you. If you are in the Baltimore area, you are in luck! Freedom Fence and Deck builds beautiful privacy fences of different styles, including these three types of privacy fences.

Board-on-Board Privacy Fences

Board-on-board privacy fences use alternating vertical fence boards to add privacy to people’s homes. Each board is placed in an alternating pattern on either side of the fence’s horizontal railings. The result is an interesting fence pattern and texture. The downside is that it might be difficult to replace old fence boards on your neighbor’s side of the property.

Lock Board Privacy Fences

Lock board privacy fences place vertical fence boards side by side to create a seamless, smooth privacy fence. The fence’s horizontal rails will be apparent on one side of the fence. The side that reveals the horizontal rails usually faces the property’s interior so that the outside has a good curb appeal.

Lattice Fences

Lattice fences are less common and lattice panels are used as privacy screens for decks and yards. You can also customize a lock board or board-on-board privacy fence with a lattice top. Anyhow, lattice fences are excellent for creating privacy without sacrificing on ventilation. You can also take the opportunity to grow climbing plants on your lattice fence.

Bonus: Privacy Fence Styles

Each of these types of privacy fences has variations regarding the fence panels and the fence post caps. The fence panels can be scalloped, arched, or horizontal, mainly. The fence post caps can be pointed, flat, or have an interesting motif on top, like a sphere, a fleur de lis, or a solar light. Privacy fences also differ in height, so your fence can be as short or tall as you need. In Maryland, you need a permit to install a fence taller than six feet.
