Your vinyl fence has never needed much attention. Rather, your vinyl fence has managed to remain low-maintenance since the day you decided to have it installed. If you’re one of the many homeowners that have opted for a vinyl fence, you may be wondering how and when you’re supposed to clean it. Luckily for you, your vinyl fence is recommended to be maintained just once a year.
Why Your Fence Needs to be Maintained
During the humid summers, your vinyl fence can become yellow or even green. This is typically due to a buildup of algae and other materials. During the winter, your fence can become subject to damage and buildup caused by snow and rain. Some of the debris, such as mud or dirt, can be washed away simply with a towel or water from the garden hose. Once a year, it’s important for you to treat your fence thorough cleaning to ensure that it looks its best.
How to Clean my Fence
If you don’t have a power washer then fear not, there are other great ways to clean your fence just as effectively. All you need to complete your cleaning will be your garden hose, a large bucket, and soap. You can purchase a fence-cleaning soap or make your own using powdered laundry detergent or household cleaner.
Mix the solutions in the bucket, and using a large towel, scrub the surface of the fence. You can scrub the entirety of the fence or simply the areas that are unclean. Once you’ve finished scrubbing the fence, rinse it off with your garden hose. The entire process should take you 1 to 2 hours.
