Below are the answers to common questions from our customers.
-
Does installing a fence or deck require a permit?
A permit may be required depending on which county you are located in and the height of the fence. All decks 12” above grade require a permit. To obtain a fence or deck permit, you will need a copy of your property plat. Indicate on the plat where the fence or deck is to be located. There will also be a county fee involved. We can obtain the permit for an additional cost.
-
How long will installation take?
The average fence or deck job will take approximately 2-3 days to complete depending on digging conditions.
-
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We are both licensed and insured. Our Maryland Home Improvement License Number is 87413.
-
Do I need a property survey for my fence?
If you are unclear where your property lines are, it is advisable that you have the property surveyed prior to installation of the fence. A property plat will give you approximate dimensions to where your property lines are, but is not intended for the establishment of property lines. If you elect not to have the property surveyed and are comfortable as to where the property lines are, it is your responsibility to show us where the placement of the fence is going to be.
-
What type of wood do you use?
The majority of our fences and decks are built with ACQ pressure treated pine. The chemicals used to treat the pine help eliminate termite infestation, rot and decay and are environmentally friendly. Although most customers prefer treated lumber, we also offer cedar as an option. Cedar has a natural tendency to resist rotting and infestation if kept above ground. While cedar has less tendency to warp, it does not last as long as treated lumber.
-
What material options do I have?
Besides pressure treated and cedar lumber, we offer many low maintenance options to choose from. Fencing options include chain link, vinyl, aluminum and steel. Vinyl has become one of the most popular materials used for fences. There are many colors and styles to choose from. Decking options include treated lumber and vinyl decking.
-
Do you install fences and decks in the winter?
Yes. Contrary to popular belief, we install fences and decks during the winter months.
-
What is your warranty policy?
The majority of our products have a Manufacturers Limited Lifetime Warranty. We offer a 5 year gate adjustment warranty which exceeds the competition’s 4 years warranty.
-
Do the posts get set in concrete?
All fence posts are set 30” to 36” deep in concrete. Deck footers are dug 30” below grade and the bottom 12” of the hole is filled with concrete for the post to sit on top of. The post is then backfilled with dirt. This is code for most counties.
-
What kind of maintenance does my fence or deck need?
Allow 4 to 6 weeks for the lumber to dry out and then apply a stain or sealer. This will help protect the wood and keep it from turning gray. Repeat process every 2 to 3 years. Although this is not mandatory, it will extend the life of the lumber and keep your fence or deck looking new.
-
What other kind of work do you do?
Besides fences and decks, we also do additions and general remodeling.
-
What type of financing do you offer?
Freedom Fence & Deck offers many financing options including 6 months same as cash. We do not take any personal information. Customers are free to set up their own accounts at their convenience with a 10-minute phone call. Interest rates vary.
