How to Throw a July 4th Deck Party

Happy Fourth! Enjoy the holiday on your backyard deck!

Happy Fourth of July! This Independence Day, you can make the middle of summer festive by hosting a party. If you are ready to throw a July 4th deck party, here is your guide to make it a success!

Prepare the Deck

First things first. Inspect, clean, and maintain the deck as needed.

If the deck is old or might have suffered damage, check to see that there are no signs of rotting, damage, or loose parts. If there are any problems, repair them before letting anyone walk on your deck.

A clean deck is an inviting deck. If your deck is particularly dirty, you can sweep off the loose dirt and then pressure wash or scrub the deck. If you scrub it with a long-handled brush, you can use a commercial deck cleaner or warm, soapy water.

Does your deck have splinters and warped boards? Fixing these problems is easier than you think!

Practice Deck Grilling Safety If Applicable

Does your deck have a grill, and do you plan to use it for the feast? If so, check that your grill is in good shape and protect your deck from fire with the right grill placement and deck protection. Always supervise the grill when in use and keep small children and pets away from it.

Prepare the Menu

Plan your menu ahead of time and prepare all your ingredients. It might involve drinks in a drink cooler, grilled camping foods, fancier foods, and themed desserts. Check that there is sufficient food for everyone.

Set the Table

Ensure that you have enough outdoor seating for everyone. You could use your normal outdoor dining furniture, a portable dining set, or both. If there is not enough room for all, you could extend seating in the yard or in the house.

Add Shade

No one likes to dine under scorching heat. Unless you encourage people to wear hats and sunscreen, you can also provide some shade with the help of temporary or permanent deck shade structures

Make Your Deck Festive

Lastly, decorate your deck with red, white, and blue! Banners, flags, balloons, and streamers are just a few festive options.
